The Oscar Nominations Are In!!!

Oh my fucking god. I have NEVER... NEVER in my life been so happy with the Academy. I just got off the phone this morning with Guillermo Del Toro. We were talking for 10 minutes before he realized. You see, he and his wife were watching ABC this morning for the nominations. He knew he was nominated for Screenplay and for Foreign Language - but he had NO IDEA about the other 4 nominations... All of a sudden - he lost the capacity to speak English as he started screaming in spanish - naming all his friends that just got nominated to his wife - and he's so happy, so much more so for his friends that he made this with. I'm so happy for Guillermo and his team. This is the first OSCARS in a long time, where I'm ecstatic... just with the nominations.

Hey Folks, Harry here. For the last 11 years, I've stayed up all night waiting on the Academy to announce their Nominations. I just really want to get the nominations up and ready for comment on AICN. It's not that I believe that the Academy will startle me - or perhaps introduce me to any films that I haven't heard of, or seen. That's usually reserved for the animated shorts, documentary shorts and the live action shorts. Not that we really get to see them as a result, but it's nice to know they exist each year.

Usually - I get aggravated. I've never been very happy with how they handle the Foreign film and Documentary categories, but ultimately - you can't ask the Academy to be as EDGY as you want it to be, nor will it be as geeky cool as we'd want it to be. From time to time though, they surprise us. You sit around reading the various Oscar prediction sites, you follow the trends from the different Guild and Critic Societys - and you look at the bones and tea leaves and suddenly - the Academy goes fucking nuts. Well, did that happen this morning? Let's take a look, shall we?
